British Victorian Painting View Suez Canal Egypt Group of Bedouin Tribesman with Camels Travelling Along Bank by Henry Andrew Harper. Impress your guests & clients in your home or office with this Bendouin tribal masterpiece. Title “Bedouin Tribesmen on the bank of the Suez Canal Egypt" by Henry Andrew Harper C1872. Subject view of 6 Bedouin Tribesmen, with 3 riding camels and 3 others walking along the fine course sandy banks of the Suez canal in Egypt all together. A fascinating rare 19th century era scene of Tribesman Bedoiun as they travel along the known Suez canal's bank shoreline, with some on camels & others walking along, dressed in typical tribal dress clothing, the tribesman seen towards the rear can be seen to be carrying water and food, above with mainly clear light sky. A further interesting feature is that this painting was only painted around a few years after the Suez canal was completed in 1869. Medium watercolour on paper backed with board with a front glass protective cover. Set in a later gilt frame, with hanging thread on the back ready for immediate home wall display. Titled and signed by the known British listed artist Henry Andrew Harper in the lower bottom corners & inscribed verso. The Bedouin, Beduin, or Bedu (/ˈbɛduɪn/;[16] Arabic: بَدْو, romanized: badū, singular بَدَوِي badawī) are pastorally nomadic Arab tribes who have historically inhabited the desert regions in the Arabian Peninsula, North Africa, the Levant, and Mesopotamia (Iraq). The Bedouin originated in the Syrian Desert and Arabian Desert but spread across the rest of the Arab world in West Asia and North Africa after the spread of Islam. The English word bedouin comes from the Arabic badawī, which means "desert-dweller", and is traditionally contrasted with ḥāḍir, the term for sedentary people. Bedouin territory stretches from the vast deserts of North Africa to the rocky ones of the Middle East. They are sometimes traditionally divided into tribes, or clans (known in Arabic as ʿašāʾir; عَشَائِر or qabāʾil قبائل), and historically share a common culture of herding camels, sheep and goats. The vast majority of Bedouins adhere to Islam, although there are some fewer numbers of Christian Bedouins present in the Fertile Crescent.Provenance Private Vendor collection, with label verso for High end Somerset based Auction & Cheshire Antiques Consultant Ltd.
