19th Century Scottish Vernacular Pine Crofting Side Chair

For sale from W&W Antiques is charming Scottish vernacular pine side chair from the North East or possibly the Northern Isles, Shetland / Orkney circa 1860-1900. - This charming small and simply designed pine chair is constructed of some beautiful sections of wood, with really lovely large grain, Scots pine and oak pieces.  - It has has been painted in blue (remnant paint elements remain) at some point some time ago in its life and later stripped fully leaving the scrubbed / limed effect look which is really attractive. - The chair is low set (seat height of 39cm) with a strong construction, canted design to the seat with square~ish legs and a robust nailed plank seat base. - The chair in each piece looks to have been constructed with a mix or different sections of wood, around the two beautiful rear legs in Scots pine.  The back is particularly strongly constructed with three cross splats between the uprights, unusually with one at the very base against the seat, akin to some Isles and also Perthshire / Moray chairs. - The wear marks, colouration, bleaching and construction make this small side chair a really lovely little robust charmer.  It is in solid antique condition given an age of circa 150+years.  A lovely little piece of vernacular history.
