This is a delightful 19th century watercolour in excellent original condition by Frederick Williamson (1833 to 1900). The watercolour is beautifully executed with fine detail and is attractively framed in its original gilt swept frame that compliments the work perfectly. Frederick Williamson was a London artist who was a talented landscape painter with meticulous technique. He exhibited at the Royal Academy, British Institution, Scottish Society, National Watercolour Society, Glasgow Gallery and elsewhere. His early work was highly detailed and influenced by the Pre Raphaelites. He specialised in the depiction of English landscapes usually with sheep or cattle. Examples of his work appear at auction occasionally with a record price achieved for this artist of $5854 US dollars for a watercolour titled Cattle and Sheep in a Pasture, and Sheep Resting in a Meadow dated 1871 measuring 22cms by 40 cms. This watercolour is a superb example of this talented hand and is a nice size measuring 54 cms by 40 cms overall including the frame with the painting being 34 cms by 22 cms.
