A Fine Set of 12 Edwardian Mahogany Dining Chairs in the Hepplewhite Style, c.1900 This fine set of chairs consists of 10 side chairs and a pair of armchairs, the shield backs and panelled front legs inspired by George Hepplewhite and his designs of the 1780s. The chairs have carved wheat sheaf motifs on the crest rails, a design that is sometimes found on 18th century chairs of this style as well. The motif presumably associated with entertaining and food, perfect for use on a set of chairs intended for a dining room. Other carved details on the splats include harebell swags and a half sunflower in a beaded cartouche to the base. In addition to the carving, there are also inlaid fan paterae at three points on every splat. The chairs are newly upholstered in aged burgundy leather with brass nailing. A very fine set of chairs with great presence and style.
