Description
This well-proportioned William IV chiffonier is constructed in richly figured flame mahogany, displaying particularly attractive book-matched veneers to the panelled doors and sides. The cabinet is of classic architectural form, with a moulded rectangular top above a shallow frieze drawer fitted with original turned wooden knobs. Below, a pair of fielded panel doors open to reveal a practical interior fitted with fixed shelving and an additional internal drawer, offering useful storage while retaining its original layout. The cabinet is flanked by turned and reeded pilasters, a characteristic feature of the William IV period, and stands on a solid plinth base, giving the piece a strong and grounded presence. The mahogany retains a deep, warm colour and good surface patina, with minor marks and wear commensurate with age and use. The quality of the timber and the restrained classical lines are typical of early 19th-century English furniture of this period. Originally intended for use in a dining or drawing room as a serving or storage cabinet, this chiffonier works equally well today as a sideboard, hallway cupboard or low storage piece. A handsome and versatile example of William IV furniture, combining elegance, practicality and excellent flame mahogany colour.
