This fabulous pair of large 18th-century yew wood treen vases is a particularly rare and appealing example of traditional English country craftsmanship. Each vase has been skilfully turned from beautifully figured native yew wood on a traditional country woodman's pole lathe. Both are constructed in two sections, joined just above the foot, demonstrating the ingenuity and practical skill of the craftsman who made them. The yew wood has developed a wonderfully rich colour and lustrous patination over the centuries, enhanced by generations of careful wax polishing. Both vases remain in untouched, original condition, retaining all the charm and character that make early treen so desirable to collectors.
