Description
An early 20th-century Afghan rug woven in the Aqcha region of northern Afghanistan, dated 1347 AH (circa 1928–29 AD) by an inscription woven at one end. The design features two large octagonal Tekke-style guls set within a geometric field and framed by multiple borders of hooked and stylised motifs.
Woven in wool on a wool foundation, this rug displays a beautifully time-softened palette, with the original reds now faded to gentle tones of beige, stone, and grey-brown. The wear is even and coherent, giving the surface a calm, patinated appearance that reads more like a textile than a bold patterned carpet.
This is a subtle, characterful piece, ideal for layered interiors, quiet corners, bedside placement, or beneath furniture, where age, texture, and authenticity are valued over strong colour. Its small scale and restrained palette make it particularly easy to place in both traditional and contemporary settings.
