This is a lovely small antique sterling silver box from the early Edwardian 1900s. It was most likely made originally for storing snuff or tobacco in, and now it would be perfect for small items or jewellery.
It comes in a gift bag and it would be a fantastic and very special present.
It was made by WTP and Co and it was hallmarked in Birmingham in 1909. The maker’s mark and hallmarks are on the inside of the box.
The oval box is made of sterling silver with a smooth exterior and the hinge built into the side of the box. The lid is opened by putting a fingernail under the edge and it pops up. There’s a clasp to keep the lid shut and soldering around the sides inside from where the top and bottom were joined together when it was made.
measurements
It weighs 76g. It measures 8.3cm by 6.3cm (3 1/4 inches by just over 2 1/2 inches). The height is 2.1cm (7/8 inch).

condition
The silver is shiny. There’s a number of small dents to the sides and base and two to the lid. Around the side the seam can be seen where the top and bottom are joined together and the metal bar inside that lifts the lid has a little deterioration.
