This is an antique cheese keeper. A German, ceramic butter dish by Ludwig Wessel, dating to the late Victorian period, circa 1900.
Fine German keeper with an ornate decorative appeal that displays a desirable aged patina and in good order. Quality white ceramic hosts a profuse, colourful motif. Foliate decor in an appealing palette of reds and blue. Ludwig Wessel maker's mark and Muster Schutz patent roundel to base.
