Antique Chinese Silk Festival Hat, Tiger, Textile Art

This antique Chinese silk festival hat is really just an incredible and fascinating piece of Chinese history. These protection hats were handmade and decorated for children to wear during the festival and they usually feature one or more protective creatures. Each animal represents protection from evil and each have their own significant meanings. The detail and absolute craftsmanship that goes into each piece is really second to none, not to mention that they are beautiful pieces of textile art. This piece features a Tiger that covers the whole top and has a stuffed tail designed to stand when wearing. The tiger has bulbous eyes and is bearing his teeth to ensure that the evil spirits are afraid and the child is well protected. It has a purple satin drop at the back and a hand sewn cotton lining. Approx measurements: 19.5" circumference 14" length Condition: Good used condition overall, minor marks and some loosening of the cotton band in the inside, the tail does not stand straight alone and there are a couple of visible moth holes in the silk.
