An attractive Late 18th / Early 19th Century Antique English Georgian Brass Hanging Box with simple repoussé decoration, retaining it's original hanger, the hinge still in good working order. For similar examples, see Schiffer, {The Brass Book ~ Exton, PA, 1978}, where the author considers the various claims made regarding the purpose of these boxes, which were most probably used for holding candles or tapers.
