This is an antique fitted silver chest. An English, oak and bound iron shipping trunk, dating to the late Victorian period, circa 1880. Fascinating bound example, with superb Victorian storage appeal that displays a desirable aged patina and in good order throughout. Select oak stocks present fine grain interest and rich caramel hues. Profusely bound with cast iron braces to each corner. Shallow lid hosts remnants of mid 20th century travel labels. Opens to reveal a liner tray, removable to extend the storage space. Lid and tray dressed in a tasteful leather finish. Engraved name plaque to the front fascia for an F. Eyre inset, brass lined lock — untested, key absent. Superb drop handles over ornate shaped backplates. Maker's plaque to the case edge for G. Dimmer of Southsea, Portsmouth.
