Antique highly carved French bed in the Louis XV style, made in a hardwood (probably walnut) in the 1910s we think. Various carvings incorporating flowers, shells and leaves, the most impressive being the top crest on the headboard. We've fully slatted it out, with central bar and support to prevent sagging. It's a regular double bed if the tops of the side bars are used: should be fine if the mattress corners are quite curved, as the side bars curve up at the very ends (see pics); I think one will squidge in there..mattress sizes are standard but they very quite a bit.

condition
condition
Condition is pretty good structurally, though these aren't the original side bars: they're the right age, wood and colour but we've had to modify them somewhat. Mainly by drilling bolts through the back of the headboard where they're not too visible (pictured) and on the tailboard (which is too decorative to justify drilling through) we've just used one bolt on each side where there were two originally. The upshot is it's solid enough; certainly very much so on the headboard; some very minor movement on the tailboard but acceptable. The headboard is more important really; lots of leverage.
Cosmetically there are various scuffs, marks and blemishes due to age, some chips to some carvings etc, but not to the detriment of the overall look. We've pictured the most obvious.
