Antique French Renaissance Barely Twist Carved Double Bed Frame (Matching armoire available) Offering for sale this wonderful and rare carved solid oak bed sourced recently from France. The double bed frame has a carved panelled headboard, footboard and side rails. The bed features substantial panelled side rails with carved foliate decoration, supported by turned barely twist corner posts and a raised plinth base. The bed boasts a large (removable) carved pediment, the crest is surmounted by a finely carved heraldic motif featuring two opposing eagles flanking a central cartouche. A superb quality bed and a real statement piece! In terms of condition the bed looks amazing, we have cleaned, waxed and polished the bed sympathetically to preserve the beautiful patina. The wood surfaces show a rich naturally developed patina consistent with age and long-term use. There are variations in tone, surface wear and age splits. There are also historical repairs visible in places, notably to the lower areas near the feet and base. No movement or weakness is evident and the bed remains solid when assembled. Minor marks, knocks, small scuffs and age related imperfections are expected with furniture of this period. Signs of old worm which have been thoroughly treated out of caution.
