Antique Georgian Enamel on Copper Bilston Motto Patch Box c.1770
On offer is this quintessentially romantic 18th century Bilston enamel on copper patch box given as a token of love or friendship and dating circa 1770. This box measures 4 cm by 3.3 cm and is approx. 2.5 cm in depth. This antique Bilston box has pink enamel base and the domed lid has the words "Happy The Man who void of care and Strife With Love and Friendship shares a social Life" written in black script on a white enamel ground. The box has aged brass rims, and hinge and opens to reveal a white enamel interior and original mirror under the lid.
This antique Bilston box has normal light age related wear in the form of tight clean crazing lines, but has no chips or restoration. The internal mirror has dark spots but you can still see your reflection in it. This patch box is stable and sound and would make a wonderful addition to an any collection. Thank you for looking.
