Description
Attractive Art Nouveau butterfly brooch measuring a larger than average 6.5cm in width across the top wing span and weighs 19.7 grams. This butterfly brooch is made of solid silver and is marked to the back JA&S for the prestigious silversmith John Atkins & Sons. The brooch is also stamped with the number 2371 which is probably the design number and has hallmarks for Birmingham 1918.
This fine butterfly is offered in good condition with no chips or cracks to the guilloche enamel. The brooch has strong silver pin and an early c-catch. The silver back has been only lightly polished and retains some natural patina with traces of a gilt finish.
