Antique Late Victorian High-back Windsor Armchair (c.1890)
A solid, late 19th-century armchair in the classic Windsor style. Constructed with a solid Elm seat and a Beech frame, featuring a traditional high-back lath design and turned legs.
The surface has a rich, glow with a nice depth of colour.
•Carved from a single, thick plank of figured Elm, the seat shows "life marks"—tiny indentations and a slight darkening of the grain that highlight its Victorian heritage.
• Maker's Stamp: The rear of the seat features a crisp, deep-struck "EUW" stamp. This maker's mark is a vital piece of provenance, typical of high-quality workshops in the High Wycombe region, known as the chair-making capital of England in 1890.
• Construction: Traditional Victorian "stick-and-lath" construction. The Beech frame and spindles are tightly jointed into the seat, and the legs are reinforced by a classic H-stretcher, ensuring it remains as sturdy.
This is a fine chair and carries the various marks and signs of usage and character, please see the photos to help form the description.
