Antique Mahogany Apothecary Cabinet

Small Apothecary Cabinet 24.5cm at its tallest by 16.5cm at its deepest and 18cm at its widest. 19th Century mahogany apothecary cabinet of compact proportions, retaining an attractive rich patina and fitted with quality brass furniture throughout. The cabinet features a lift up top secured by its original brass escutcheon and key, revealing a compartment fitted with glass mortars. Beneath is a row of four apothecary bottles, while the cupboard door opens to reveal two removable sliding drawers with divided interiors, designed for storing small pharmaceutical items, weights or instruments. A pair of useful drawers complete the base, making this an attractive and practical collector's piece. The cabinet displays excellent craftsmanship, dovetail joints and elegant brass carrying handles to the sides and a warm, well aged mahogany finish that would complement any antique collection or period interior. Four small bottles are made by: "SS White Dental Manufacturing Company" Condition: Presented in good antique condition with age related wear, marks and surface patina consistent with use. Right side panel showing light natural split but structurally intact. The lower drawer is missing its original internal dividers. The four small apothecary bottles might posibly be later replacements. On the six mortars: the stoppers are seized in all but two bottles, and three bottles have small chips to their rims. These minor imperfections do little to detract from the cabinet's decorative appeal and functionality. A delightful and unusual antique apothecary cabinet, ideal for collectors of medical antiques, curiosity cabinets or traditional country house interiors.
