Antique Mahogany Jewellery Box

A refined Edwardian mahogany jewellery box, dating to the early 20th century, showcasing elegant craftsmanship and a practical interior layout. The exterior is formed from richly toned mahogany, displaying a warm reddish-brown hue with a soft, aged patina. The box is of rectangular form with clean, understated lines typical of the Edwardian period. It features a simple brass escutcheon to the front (unfortunately without a key), adding a subtle decorative touch while maintaining its restrained aesthetic. The construction is of good quality, with visible hand-cut dovetail joints to the corners of the tray, indicating careful workmanship. The lid opens smoothly to reveal a striking interior lined in vibrant royal blue silk and velvet. The inside of the lid is beautifully padded and ruched, designed to cushion delicate items. Internally, the box is well-fitted with a series of compartments for organising jewellery, along with a central lidded section ideal for storing smaller or more valuable pieces. The contrast between the rich mahogany exterior and the bold blue lining creates a particularly eye catching presentation. Condition: Overall in good antique condition, with expected age related wear such as light surface marks and minor knocks to the wood with visible split to the back cornerof the lid.  The interior lining remains vivid and clean, with only light signs of use. As noted, the box is without its original key and to be safe i will say the lock is not working, but it closes neatly. 35cm wide  by 19cm deep by 10cm hight A charming and practical Edwardian piece, ideal for use or display, combining functionality with classic period style.
