Description
An Edwardian period antique Oak Miner's Stick Barometer by Bonser & Co of Leeds C.1900. Figured oak case with canted corners and round top of substantial quality with heavy brass bezel surrounding the glass. Angled bone scales with adjustable vernier marker, remotely adjusted by the ivorine knob on the case. Mercury action movement and matching mercury action thermometer, fully overhauled and working. Superb condition and quality, this miner's, or pit head barometer as they are sometimes known, reads lower and higher pressures than a normal stick barometer, allowing them to be taken down a mine ( after the Mines act of 1872 it was a requirement for safety reasons, due to gas explosions).
