Antique Sewing Set / Etui in Studded Leather Purse / Hand Bag Circa 1880

This attractive antique sewing étui dates circa 1880 and consists of brass studded leather handbag form case with ornate brass fittings and carry chain. The bag is of cylindrical form and measures approx. 13 cm by 9 cm and is 5.5 cm in depth. The case has hinged opening on each end and double access doors to the main body at the centre. To the inside of the centre of the case is a deep silk lined compartment. The opening is double-sided and beneath one lid is a domed plush pin cushion. The underside of the other lid has silk loops holding various gilt metal sewing implements including thimble, stiletto bodkin, lidded needle case and a lidded pencil case with pencil. Each end of the purse also has hinged doors.The left hand side opens to reveal a silk pocket under the lid and a compartment containing various crochet hooks. The right hand side of the case opens to reveal a coin purse with 3 sectioned concertina interiors and closed section at the centre with brass frame and flip up catch.
