This superb antique small Georgian mahogany four drawer chest of drawers with brushing slide dates from around 1780 and is a wonderful example of fine late eighteenth-century English craftsmanship. Beautifully proportioned and exceptionally versatile, it retains its original brass swan neck handles, original locks, original bracket feet and the highly desirable original pull-out brushing slide.
Crafted from beautifully figured solid mahogany, the chest has acquired a rich mellow patina over more than 240 years. The moulded top sits above the practical brushing slide, providing additional display or working space before leading to four graduated drawers offering generous storage. The original brass swan neck handles and escutcheons complement the elegant proportions and authentic Georgian character.
Raised on its original shaped bracket feet, this charming chest is perfectly suited for use in a bedroom, hallway, sitting room or study. Its compact size makes it ideal for modern homes whilst still providing excellent storage, and the brushing slide offers additional practicality for displaying decorative objects, serving drinks or everyday use.
Georgian chests of this size and quality, retaining so many original features, are becoming increasingly difficult to source. This is a particularly attractive example combining timeless design, practicality and outstanding craftsmanship.
