Antique Victorian 3-D fashion picture, textile and print, original frame, 1872

Size: Frame 51 x 45 cm, picture inside frame 26 x 33 cm (10 x 13 inches) approx. Condition: Very good antique condition, frames refurbished with new acrylic glazing, general toning to print paper and slight ageing to textiles. This is a charming, striking and unusual picture, in its original box frame, made from a print from the fashion magazine La Mode Illustreé, dated 1872 (Issue No 20). The print has been enhanced by using actual textiles to create the dresses of the principal ladies shown in the print. A complex variety of fabrics, lace borders etc has been used, and the figures are filled out to give a 3D effect This particular print is advertising the "toilettes de Mme.Breant Castel". The magazine date and issue are beneath the frame. Underneath the lilac dress is the printed signature of Adele-Anaïs Colin Toudouze (1822 – 1899), a celebrated fashion plate illustrator born in the Ukraine, who did a great deal of work for La Mode Illustreé.
