Antique Victorian Illustration Painting Domestic Scene C1870

For sale this week is a very accomplished Victorian era watercolour. The scene is that of an old man reading a letter in the kitchen surrounded by women. I would estimate it was painted around 1875 and is probably British in origin. It is one of several by the same artist that I am currently selling, so it is possible this series is part of a set of illustrations for a book. The backing paper measures about 27 by 22 centimetres. The image itself measures about 15 by 12 centimetres. Total weight is about 35 grams. Condition is good with bright colours and strong contrast. Minor smudges and wear in places on the backing paper from handling over time. Please refer to the photographs. Shipping will be free within the UK.
