Antique Victorian Mahogany Work Box on Stand c.1880
A late Victorian mahogany work box on stand, the concave-fronted box section veneered in well-figured bookmatched mahogany with a central satinwood patera to the top.
The interior is fitted with lidded compartments, shaped divisions and a sprung brass stay supporting the lid, all original and neatly executed. The box is set on a solid mahogany stand with square tapered legs joined by a low stretcher, designed to echo Georgian and Regency forms while retaining the economy and precision of Victorian construction.
Combining the refinement of a dressing table with the practicality of a work table, its compact scale and restrained lines make it well suited to a bedroom, study or dressing area where a touch of elegance is required.
Presented in very good antique condition with some minor age-related surface wear and a pleasing patina. The interior is clean and complete, the mechanism operates correctly and the table is structurally sound, clean and ready to place in the home. Later dealer’s stamp for A. M. Kearsey & Son, Oxford, beneath the mirror tray.
English, circa 1880.
