Description
A lovely Victorian writing slope with its original working lock and key. The corners and edges are bound in brass with matching brass escutcheon and cartouche. Inside, the box is fitted with a good quality dark leather writing surface with a gold tooled edge. It comes with two glass inkwells and a pen tray. Both top and bottom sections of the leather surface lift up to reveal extra storage space below. The best description comes from the photos so please look at them all carefully and if you have any questions at all please ask.

condition

The box is in good condition for its age with a beautiful patina and displays very nicely. The leather writing surface is in good condition with no major holes or tears and its original pull tabs. The brass shield escutcheon around the key has been replaced at some point and one of the inkwells is missing its lid. There are some general signs of age and use, some knocks and light scuffs, a few old shrinkage splits on the outside of the box but nothing untoward or detrimental. Overall the box displays very well.
