This is an antique wallpaper printing block. An English, carved brass on hardwood printer's stamp, dating to the late Victorian period, circa 1880. Wonderfully rare and unusual, with a delightful brass picotage pattern that displays a desirable time-worn patina, commensurate with industrial use. Hardwood form replete with carved hand grips to the reverse. Marked to the side with the pattern number of 8851. Carved metal repeating pattern presents exceptional skill and intricacy. Amber hues adorn the filigree pattern, contrasting against the deep chestnut coloured base. Attractive Art Nouveau botanic pattern redolent of Liberty and other prominent fabric specialists.
