Art Deco 1930's Gwenda Foil Backed Tap Flap Picture Powder Compact

On offer is this attractive 1930's powder compact manufactured by the British factory of Hussey Dawson and marketed under the familiar "Gwenda" trade name. The case measures 7.8 cm in diameter and is made of chromium metal with glossy black enamel back. The lid has a picture of a crinoline lady in a flower garden. The picture is reverse printed under a protective celluloid covering and then mounted over sparkling blue foil. The case has firm hinge and opens by way of the traditional Gwenda scalloped thumb catch. Under the lid is a polished metal mirror. The powder well in the base is covered by the Gwenda tap-flap powder dispensing mechanism and is marked Gwenda Tap-Flap Made in England. The compact also retains the original unused puff and the original paper leaflet with filling instructions.
