Art Nouveau Austrian Bronze Nude Sculpture - Attributed Rudolf Küchler c.1900

This is a beautiful and highly decorative original Austrian Art Nouveau bronze sculpture, dating to circa 1900 and attributed to the Austrian sculptor Rudolf Küchler (1867–1954). The wonderfully expressive work depicts a kneeling female nude, modelled in an elegant and somewhat contemplative pose, with one arm resting across her forehead and the other extending down towards the base. The figure is beautifully modelled, particularly around the face, hands, feet and flowing hair, and displays the graceful, naturalistic lines so strongly associated with the Vienna Art Nouveau / Jugendstil period. She is seated upon an integral, boldly modelled rocky bronze plinth, which provides a striking contrast to the smooth contours of the female figure. It is of particular appeal is the bronze's rich, warm golden-brown patination, with darker tones to the hair and recesses and attractive natural variation throughout the surface. The sculpture is hollow cast, as can be seen from the underside, and despite its relatively diminutive proportions has considerable presence and quality. An extremely attractive and sensual example of early 20th-century Austrian bronze sculpture and a wonderful decorative piece for the collector of Art Nouveau, Vienna Secession and European bronzes.
