Description
An outstanding English striking bracket clock in a honey-coloured Walnut case (with lovely graining and aged patination), made by the Garrard Engineering and Manufacturing Co. Ltd, and assembled by their subsidiary company Garrard Clocks Ltd in Swindon. (Garrard launched their first clocks in October 1931, and become one of England's premium quality vintage clock makers). (Nb: To emphasis the quality of this wonderful clock, the case would have been hand-crafted by world-famous furniture makers 'Gordon Russell Ltd' of Evesham, one of Garrard's suppliers). The clock has a hinged and glazed front door, and hinged wooden rear door, with a bell-top pagoda and shaped brass carrying handle. The chapter ring dial in chrome, has black hand-painted Roman numerals and a matted brass centre, finished with a pair of black Louis XIV style hands. The ring is then surrounded by four brass maiden head spandrels. The outstanding 14-day engineered movement is a front winding pendulum driven, two-train mechanism, with a solid steel anchor escapement, set between two polished snailed brass plates. It comes with its original and adjustable spring-loaded chrome-plated pendulum bob (stamped 'Garrard') and original chrome-plated Garrard signed winding key. The backplate bears the clocks serial no. "S34642" (helping to date the clock) and is stamped with the trademark, "Garrard, Swindon." The clock has two movement Patent numbers stamped on the lacquered, snailed finished backplate, both applied for in 1931. (A) The first in May 1931 (No. '378,897'), was for “Improvements in Pendulums for Clocks and Other Like Devices” and granted on 15 August 1932. (B) The second in June 1931 (No. '379,402'), was for “Improvements in Escapement Mechanism of Clocks and the Like” and granted on 1 Sept 1932. On the outside of the rear door, there is a 1938 London hallmarked silver presentation plaque. Payment - We Accept: - Debit / Credit Cards. - Bacs Transfer.
