Description
A stunning English bracket timepiece named the “Peckover”, with solid brass and glazed case, by maker Rotherham and Sons of Coventry. This is one of the rarest of the famous Rotherham & Sons portfolio of fabulous vintage bracket clocks, and it is believed that only c4,200 were made by the company, during the period c1950-1965. (These primarily as presentation cocks for the corporate sector, such as this fine example). The clock has an attractive open-faced break-arch dial, chrome chapter ring (with black Roman numerals), and a matted brass centre, finished with black Louis XIV style hands. The ring is flanked by 4 x brass corner spandrels with larger spandrel decoration above the ring. There are also 2 x winged maiden spandrels set higher up on the face, and below the inverted bell top pagoda, culminating with a lovely swing-type brass carrying handle. There are two glazed panels to the sides of the clock allowing the movement to be viewed, and a removeable brass back panel with central opening mechanism to the rear. There is also a brass Courtaulds presentation plaque on the outside of the back panel. The clock then sits on its stepped-based platform. Protected by its original Perspex circular dust cover, the precision 8-day lever movement is driven by an 11-jewel screwed balance platform escapement with Chronovar hair spring, and stamped with the "R&S" initials and "Made in England." (Nb: In 1929, Rotherham's became the first English clock making company to manufacture an all-English platform escapement movement). The military style hands-set button and fixed rear winding key are mounted on the lacquered concentrically snailed backplate, bearing the serial number "A05549" and stamped "Rotherham's English Movement." Weighing over 3kg, this wonderfully robust and eye-catching clock, certainly makes a statement! Payment - We Accept: - Debit / Credit Cards. - Bacs Transfer (Faster Payments).
