Camphorwood Oriental Chest with Regimental Roundels

A gloriously scented camphorwood box, this was originally sold out of Hong Kong, but has been decorated with roundels on the top and the front to suggest use in Egypt as a military chest by a member of the East Lancashire regiment. - Heavily carved with oriental themes, including people and junks on a river with buildings and trees in the background. - Light coloured carved wooden roundels inset to the top and front show "Egypt, East Lancashire", with a sphinx and a crown at the top. - Carved block feet. - Brass lock and hinges, with brass reinforced inside corners. - Stamped inside "Hung Hop, No. 5 Shing Wong St., Hong Kong". - Wooden lifting handles at the sides. - The back is plain. - Lovely smell of the camphorwood inside.
