Colin T Johnson, Oil on Canvas, Dartmouth '87

An original signed oil on canvas by Devon artist Colin T. Johnson, painted in 1987 and titled “Dartmouth” on the artist’s own studio label. From a vantage point above the town, Johnson captures Dartmouth’s distinctive church tower, steep hillside houses and busy harbour beyond. Bold blocks of colour, stylised clouds and simplified architectural forms give the work a strong graphic feel, reminiscent of 1930s railway posters and naïve coastal painting – a classic look for West Country interiors. Signed lower right and dated 1987. Artist’s studio label to the reverse with title, date and Teignmouth address. Oil on canvas, 49 x 75 cm (30 x 20 in). Presented in its period double frame.
