Description
An early 19th Century (circa 1830) English antique yew wood Windsor armchair, with a particularly attractive warm colour and well-aged patina. The high hooped back is formed with slender turned spindles centred by a pierced and shaped elm splat, continuing to the curved arm supports with turned front uprights. The chair has a generously shaped elm saddle seat, raised on turned yew wood legs united by a distinctive crinoline stretcher. A very appealing country chair with good proportions and plenty of character, displaying the attractive variation in colour and surface associated with yew and elm. The chair retains the knocks, marks and wear consistent with its age and use, contributing to its pleasing, untouched appearance.
