Description
A rare and characterful early 20th century hand painted metal sign, possibly originating from a public house, inn, or hotel. Executed on galvanized sheet metal, the sign features a heraldic shield depicting a crenellated castle with three towers above a fortified gateway guarded by a halberd bearing sentry. The shield is framed by a yellow painted border and decorative scrollwork.
Retaining its original hand painted decoration with extensive weathering and patina, the sign displays the authentic wear expected from many years of outdoor use. Original mounting brackets remain present to the reverse, further supporting its likely function as an exterior commercial sign.
An evocative piece of architectural salvage and antique advertising, ideal for collectors of pub memorabilia, folk art, or decorative signage.
