Description
A scarce Edwardian Schweppes advertising aneroid barometer by Short & Mason c.1905. Aneroid barometer having 4¾” illuminated ceramic dial, the outer part with standard meteorological terms, the semi-circular barometric scale calibrated in inches of mercury with a range from 28” – 31” divided down to 1/50th, the centre decorated “Schweppes, Purveyors To The King,” the lower part with thermometer, the register calibrated in Fahrenheit with a range from 20° – 120°. Blued and illuminated steel pointer, bevelled plexiglass set in a lacquered brass bezel. Standard Vidie pattern movement driven from a single 2¾” nickel alloy capsule tensioned on a C spring. Presented in a decorated circular rope pattern mahogany case. Condition: The subject of a full service, conservation, and calibration under laboratory conditions, see performance chart from dynamic test, the movement working well with good sensitivity across the range. The dial damage free, clear and crisp, some restoration to timber case. Comments: These antique advertising barometers are really hard to find, visually attractive and functional, and a great addition to your kitchen – or private bar! Unsigned, the movement probably by Short & Mason.
