This stunning solid silver jewellery box was made in Birmingham 1906 by the highly sought-after silversmith Henry Matthews. It has very generous proportion and is very decorative. Of oval form, the hinged cover profusely embossed with scrolls surrounding a vacant medallion. Narrow and elegant thumb piece to the front. The simple base raised on four very pretty pierced pad feet. Original burgundy velvet interior. Rich gilt inner cover. Hallmarks:- Fully hallmarked on inner the base Date letter and Lion passant on front of lid HM for Henry Matthews. Birmingham Assay Mark. Lion Passant. Date letter "g" for 1906.
