Description
We offer for consideration, this exceptional fusee drop dial timepiece by William Ball Palmer, who worked from 33 Broad Street, Bristol. Born 1819 in Bath, Somerset, Palmer was registered as “A Chronometer Watch and Master Clockmaker”, and was much sought after for his professional, highly valued work. On the 1861 Census, he was listed as residing in a Richmond Road property, in the affluent Montpelier area of Bristol. Following retirement, Palmer relocated to Barton Regis, a small hamlet in Gloucestershire, from where he passed away in 1897, aged 78. • Superbly hand-crafted cabinet work includes a solid Mahogany turned roundhead face over a flamed Mahogany drop box. • Case embellishment includes a shaped and glazed front visible pendulum aperture with brass surround and original hand-carved Acanthus designed C-scroll side-ears. • Hinged inspection door located on the side of the box. • Hinged regulator door to the bottom of the box, with later replacement ‘hook and eye’ catch. • Original metal dial with black painted Roman numerals and Palmer’s details. • Original pair of blued Heavy Double Swell spade hands secured with a pinned collet. • Thick bevelled glaze mounted in its solid brass bezel. • Quality 8-day single fusee chain driven movement with rectangular plates and turned pillars. • Comes with its original brass pendulum rod and bob plus and its brass fusee winding key. A very fine example of high-quality mid-19th Century English clockmaking! Payment - We Accept: - Debit / Credit Cards. - BACS Transfer. (Our bank details are on our invoices). - Cash.
