Ernest Greenwood (b1913) - Pen & Acrylic "The Tall Tower"

An attractive and subtle painting of a Mediterranean village house with tall tower. Exact location is not given, but it has a distinctly Italian feel! We love the soft colours reflected in both the buildings and the sky. Greenwood was born in Welling Kent and studied at the royal College of Art. After WW11 service, he became a teacher and an inspector of art for Inner London Education Authority and Kent Education Committee. He travelled extensively, exhibited with RA and RI was became a member of RWS in 1973. He served as President for 8 years from 1976 during which time the society re-established itself at Bankside. We think this painting, which was exhibited at Bankside, may date from this period. Examples of his work are held by the Tate Gallery among others.
