An exceptional Burr Walnut and Solid Walnut Tea Poy or Tea Caddy on stand. Manufactured between 1840-1850, the middle of the 19th century and stamped to the underside of the base simply "Gillows". Fully described and photographed in the Gillows reference book by Susan E. Stuart. The tea box containing 2 tea canisters sits on top of a twisted solid walnut column mounted on a platform base with beautifully "Nulling and Fluting" the term used by Gillows to describe the intricate carving around the caddy lid and around the base of the column. Beneath the base are the casters concealed beneath up turned and fluted feet.

In excellent antique condition, commensurate with age and handling, strong joints, no boring insects, missing its 2 glass bowls and some wear to the velvet lining where the bowls sit.
