Extremely Rare Sea Monster Picture Back Silver Teaspoon

An extremely rare example of a mid 18th Century silver picture back teaspoon. These charming pieces were made from the middle of the 1700s and feature an assortment of collectible motifs, perhaps the most well known being the galleon and the acanthus leaf. This example is most unusual and features a sea monster. To the top reverse of the shank are dot initials N over HA, suggesting that this was a marriage gift. Unusually, to the top front is a pattern featuring acanthus leaves and a flower. The spoon bears only the Maker's mark which is unclear and is a sought after collectors item.
