Description
Born 1837 in Warwick, Ward relocated to Cambridge with his parents, when he was a young boy and made the city his home. He was known primarily for his expertise as a contract clockmaker (or “Jobber”, to use the terminology of the day), where he would be brought into his clients workshop (eg a Jeweller) to manufacture and oversee, the production of clocks for their various range of clients. By following this type of professional modus operandi, there would not have been any guarantee of regular work, however, the financial rewards of carrying out such working practises would have been very attractive to a Jobber such as Ward!
• Turned Mahogany roundhead face and boxed cabinet has good, aged patination.
• Two hinged inspection doors located on each side of the box.
• Operable lockable regulator door located at the bottom of the box.
• Metal dial has black Roman numerals with Ward’s details.
• Original pair of blued spade hands, secured with a pinned collet.
• Glaze mounted in a operable lockable cast brass bezel.
• High-quality 8-day single fusee chain driven movement set between 4mm thick rectangular plates and turned pillars.
• Comes with its original 75mm diameter pendulum bob, door and bezel keys, and a brass winding key.
A lovely, handcrafted timepiece from a well-established English regional clockmaker.
