A fine and early ORIGINAL Drawing -watercolour -charcoal of “Rue de mont Cenis Montmartre” Paris signed and dated 1912 by Fernand LAVAL 1886-1966. In good condition (Please see photographs as they form part of the description). Image size 50cm x 35cm. In its old gold frame with mounts frame size 66.5cm x 53.5 Fernand Laval was born in a small village outside of Paris France in the year 1886. At the age of 26 Laval arrived in Paris, In 1912 at the Lapin Agile, he met Maurice Utrillo. Working alongside Utrillo he painted in the streets of Montmartre. On November 20 1913 he married Rachel Cohen (1889-1966). In 1915 they had a daughter named Jaquline Claire (1915-2004) In 1920, Laval presented at the Salon d'Automne a composition "From Montmartre to Les Halles.He worked much in the Netherlands, where he painted the mills, particularly in the years 1927-28, and in Belgium ("the Port of Antwerp). In 1963, Laval painted a picture of " the Collette" Renoir's home in Cagnes-sur-Mer.His favorite subjects was taken in Montmartre, in the northern suburbs of Paris, the area and the ancient fortifications, the Canal Saint-Martin and Les Halles in Paris.
