Description
A magnificent and rare 18th Century George II Parcel Gilt Secretaire Cabinet of wonderful colour, in the manner of Giles Grendey. This superbly made piece of English furniture has a concave shaped and carved gilt wood break front cornice above two shaped doors with fine foliate gilt wood carving bordering the fielded panels. Interestingly the single wide candle slide on this piece can be seen on London made pieces by Old & Ody and is a relatively rare feature. The base mould is boldly carved with egg & dart gilt wood decoration and the ogee feet are swept outwards. The interior of the cabinet is fitted with many drawers of varying sizes retaining the original ring drop handles. The secretaire drawer fitted with finely made pigeon holes and drawers retaining the original brass knobs. The locks and hinges are original, the exterior handles are later replacements.
