Fine English Ash Press Cupboard in the manner of Maple & Co., c.1880

A handsome late Victorian English ash press cupboard, attributed to the renowned makers Maple & Co., dating to circa 1880. Constructed in beautifully figured pale ash with warm honey colouring and excellent grain throughout, the cupboard is surmounted by a bold moulded cornice above a pair of panelled cupboard doors retaining their original brass catch. Opening to reveal a practical interior with four full-width slides making it ideal for linen, clothing or general household storage. The lower section comprises two short drawers above two long graduated drawers, all with hand-cut dovetail construction and fitted with attractive period brass drop handles. The drawers run smoothly and provide an abundance of storage. The restrained Victorian design and pale ash finish make this an exceptionally versatile piece, equally at home in a bedroom, kitchen, dining room, hallway or country house interior.
