Description
A fine quality, late 18th century blunderbuss by Bennett, Royal Exchange, London with steel spring loaded bayonet, lock with safety mechanism and engraved with maker's name and a flower, brass barrel with clear proof marks and Bennett's own barrel smith mark, also marked Royal Exchange London, pull action spring loaded bayonet with some areas of blued steel, horn mounted ram rod, brass floral engraved trigger guard and butt cap engraved with flags and trophies of war, walnut stock of lovely colour and patina.
John Bennett Junior flourished between 1777 - 1794. His premises were at The Cross Daggers, No.67 Threadneedle Street opposite the north gate of the Royal Exchange. He was gun maker to the Prince of Wales, later George Iv.
This is the best flintlock blunderbuss I've seen in a long time and is in excellent fully working order.
Nb. This is an obsolete calibre gun and is therefore classed by the Home Office as a collector's item. There is no necessity to own a firearms license to sell or own this piece.

condition
condition
A fine piece which is in lovely original condition. The spring is really strong and the hammer cocks in two positions. Fires correctly. The sliding safety works and holds the hammer in the first cocked position. The spring loaded bayonet works beautifully and clips in position firmly. The walnut is a lovely even colour and patina.
The only faults are a small bruise to the brass at the end of the barrel. There are a couple of fine but insignificant cracks to the stock.
