A fine pair of mid 19th century percussion boxlock pocket pistols signed Boaler of Newark, 1.5 inch turn off barrels with band of decoration around the muzzle, Birmingham proved, the frames engraved with foliate scrolls and signed on one side Boaler and on the other Newark, safety slides and concealed triggers with chequered hatched walnut butts inlaid with small silver octagonal cartouches. A Joseph Boaler is recorded as working in Market Place, Newark in 1838.
Mantiques Bazaar has clarified that the Fine Pair of 19th Century Box Lock Percussion Pocket Pistols by Boaler (LA352100) is genuinely of the period declared with the date/period of manufacture being Circa 1840
One of the pistols is in lovely condition, the other has some pitting and discolouration to the underside of the end of the muzzle. The hammer has similar discolouration and there is a small piece of wood missing near to the safety slide. Nevertheless they are a good looking pair of early signed pistols.
