This Fine Quality 19thC Mahogany Two Drawer Side Table by W Williamson & Sons of Guildford has all the hallmarks of a fine piece of furniture. Standing on good sized crisply turned legs that terminate in gutsy brass cup castors with brown porcelain wheels. The castors themselves are each stamped with the name of the renowned brass-founding firm of the 19thC, Cope & Collinson, that were only used on good quality furniture.
The two free running drawers offer useful storage. The curved back stand is a nice feature too. This table is finished all round so could be placed centrally in a room if required. Presented in fully restored condition, the rich hue of the Mahogany works so well with the brass castors. Being constructed of good dense timber the table has a very good weight to it.
William Williamson and Sons were a company associated with quality furniture spanning the 18th to 20th centuries, but particularly during the 19thC both as a manufacturer as well as a retailer. In fact, in 1899 they received the Royal Warrant from Queen Victoria for work for Windsor Castle, along with a Royal Warrant from Queen Alexandra in 1901. Stamped pieces from Williamson are held in high regard.
