France. Antique Senior Officer’s Sword, Model 1872/84. Third Republic Elegant antique French senior officer’s sword for all branches, corresponding to model 1872/84 and datable to the period of the Third Republic. It is a regulation piece of notable quality, intended for officers of high rank and clearly representative of the formal refinement that characterizes certain French edged weapons of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Its typology combines military sobriety, ornamental richness, and a very balanced silhouette, resulting in a particularly attractive piece from both a historical and collecting point of view. The hilt is made of gilt brass and shows careful workmanship, with chased decoration visible on several of its elements. The knuckle guard displays relief ornamentation, with a central rosette motif, giving elegance and personality to the hilt.
