Two beautiful early 20th century aquatints of Bruges in Belgium, showing houses built along the canals, reflected in the water. Very tranquil in the soft light he has managed to convey. Both are signed in pencil by the artist lower right. Frederic Levé (1877-1968) was a listed French artist, born in Paris, who was part of the post-Impressionist movement. He specialised in paintings of small French villages, well known Paris scenery and studio scenes of beautiful women. He studied art at the studios of Jean Leon Gerome and Lionello Balestrieri. He exhibited at Salon des Artistes Francais many times, and elsewhere. Both aquatints are 42 x 31 cms and framed identically in thin plain black wooden frames.
Art & Stuff has clarified that the Frederic Louis Levé Pair of Aquatints of Bruges, Belgium (LA323159) is genuinely of the period declared with the date/period of manufacture being early 20th century
